The Navy Wanted Bumble Bee Paint.

In the 1930's, the War Department fought the idea of building the Golden Gate Bridge. They didn't want their ships stuck in the bay if the bridge was bombed or otherwise damaged. Later, the Navy recommended a black-and-yellow bumble bee paint job for visibility in the fog. (The Army Air Corp preferred a red-and-white candy cane paint scheme.)
