In a few months a new restaurant will open at the former Cliff House. In the meantime, the space is being used as a pop-up museum featuring artifacts related to the 157-year-old Cliff House, Sutro Baths and Playland. Below are some outtakes. The museum is free, but you better move quickly.
"The Museum at The Cliff is free and open to the public Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00am to 5:00pm through August 21st."
One of a pair of friezes from Sutro Baths, 1894-1966.
Looks like the basic bar/restaurant layout will endure.
"Same old greetings from the same old place..." Man that's some lazy-ass copywriting.
A view from the kitchen.
Playland artifacts. They piped in amusement park sound effects to heighten the nostalgia.
The original skinny jeans.
The Barrel of Joy takes off a pound a minute. Laugh while you diet at Playland.
In the early days of Sutro Baths you had to rent their (woolen) swimsuits for an extra fee.
Of course, you'll need a locker to store your clothes while swimming at Sutro Baths.
The most fun you can have with your swimsuit on.
Where are the vegetarian options?
One of a pair of friezes that hung in the Sutro Baths.
In the late 1930's they converted half of Sutro Baths into an ice skating rink.
A looped video plays of the "Diving Bell" attraction at Playland.
To facilitate the video displays they darkened the surrounding kitchen. Kinda eerie.
Today this is all that marks the original site of Playland at the Beach.
