Now On Stage. Democracy.

From Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to The Who, the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium has hosted history's biggest names over the decades. Today the entire floor of the auditorium has been temporarily given over to the SF Department of Elections. A variety of scanning, sorting, filing and back-folding (also known as flattening) is being performed on hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots during the 2020 national election. These functions have traditionally been performed in the cramped basement of city hall, but with the need for social distancing -- and the sudden availability of entertainment venues -- Democracy gets a new home.
