1938 WPA project created a detailed wooden model of San Francisco: 6,000 city blocks, scaled 1 inch = 100 feet, for a total size of 42 feet by 38 feet. Displayed at the 1939 World's Fair on Treasure Island, then used for a time as an urban planning tool. On public display now for the first time since 1942; divided up amongst the various SF public libraries with their respective neighborhood sections. The entire map will be reassembled and displayed later this year. (Scroll down for a few Outer Richmond District map photos.)
