Long Lasting Batteries.

A pair of 16" coastal artillery cannon, part of the WWII defenses, were housed in thick concrete at Fort Funston. The cannon could launch a massive explosive projectile up to 26 miles out to sea. Today the public fort is a favorite with hang-gliders and dog walkers. More info here: http://www.militarymuseum.org/BtyDavis.html
