Lincoln's Abrupt End.

The Lincoln Highway, formally dedicated in 1913. America's Main Street. The first coast-to-coast direct highway, traveling 3,389 miles, from Times Square, New York, to Lincoln Park, San Francisco. Overlooking the Lincoln Park Golf Course, and across the street from the Legion of Honor fine art museum. (Technically, I believe, the land portion ended in Oakland, where you would drive onto a ferry, cross the bay, and resume driving across San Francisco to the westside terminus. This is before the Bay Bridge/Golden Gate Bridge opened.) Today Interstate 80 mostly follows the old Lincoln Highway.
