Today, England became the first nation to begin vaccinating its citizens with a fully approved Covid-19 shot. The U.S. is expected to approve its own by the end of the week, with supplies rolling out immediately afterward. It'll be several months before every American can be vaccinated, but light at the end of the tunnel indeed.
The photo below is from November 20, 1955. American workers are rapidly processing a shipment of the recently created polio vaccine. A disease of muscular paralysis, polio often targeted small children, leaving them in leg braces, or wheelchairs, and could be fatal. At the time, America was ramping up production of the hulking medical device known as an "iron lung." They thought there would be a need for many thousands of them. Then the vaccine was introduced.
Life features more tragedies than miracles. Savor the miracles.
