The Obama presidential portraits are on national tour; I saw them today at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. The portraits are quite a departure from the typical staid, muted treatments of previous presidential portraits. It's a good thing. I've been to a number of museum exhibits, and the crowd was unusually quiet and reflective. It felt like you were not only in the presence of history, but that you were part of it.
