Frida, SkyStar, And The Tea Garden.

On Wednesday I attended the Frida Kahlo exhibit. (No photography allowed -- the bastards!) Then I walked over to ride the SkyStar, a glorified Ferris Wheel. And I ended with a stroll through the nearby Japanese Tea Garden, which is in mid-bloom. All this fun is concentrated in the concourse section of Golden Gate Park.

The Frida Kahlo exhibit was really something. This is as intimate a look at an artist and her work as you're likely to ever get. She had quite a life, but one marked with tragedy and physical suffering. She was horribly injured in a horrific bus vs streetcar accident as a teenager. The exhibit includes many of iconic items of colorful clothing and medical garments she wore beneath. And she really blossomed as an artist and personality during her time in San Francisco in the late 1920s-early 1930s. Then add in the fact she was married to the famous muralist Diego Rivera.

The SkyStar Ferris Wheel. (The original that sat in this same spot during the 1894 Midwinter's Festival was called the Firth Wheel.)

Save your $12, because the view from the nearby observation deck of the de Young Museum tower is better -- and FREE.

The Japanese Tea Garden is open, with COVID-19 restrictions. It's just starting to bloom...
