"Death In The Fog"

Updated: Jul 1, 2019

Miles Archer didn't live long, barely into the 8th page of "The Maltese Falcon" by Dashiell Hammett. One pill to the pump and it was all over but the bleeding. There's a plaque at the scene of the crime, Burritt Alley, off Bush Street near Stockton. It was cold, dark, foggy -- and 1920's San Francisco. The plaque, set 8-feet off the ground is hard to read, and hard to steal. It says: ON APPROXIMATELY THIS SPOT MILES ARCHER, PARTNER OF SAM SPADE, WAS DONE IN BY BRIDGET O'SHAUGHNESSY.
