Today. My doctor's office is on the other end of Golden Gate Park from me. Floral frenzy ensued.
"Amidst the flowers, I tell the hours."
This memorial bench, tucked away in a quiet corner of GGP, is dedicated to SFPD Officer James Guelff. Officer Guelff was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 13, 1994. He was the first on the scene of a reported carjacking suspect on Pine & Franklin. The killer was armed with an assault rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammo, and full body armor. He killed Officer Guelff as he was reloading his service weapon, and held off 120 officers for 25 minutes, until a SWAT sniper killed him.
I believe this event is why all SFPD patrol cars now carry an assault rifle.
